Pescataway Prince Georges County Maryland March 21st 1870 W.L. VanDerlip Superintendant of Education Dear Sir I visited the school here on Mount Hill taught by Mr. Leven [[W?]] Ganes This school is doing well and we had a meeting of both Parents and scholars and at the close of the meeting all present ware delighted with the good show their children made in the examination and also what was said to encourage them The school numbers 46 scholars with about 35 average attendance Gains seem to be working hard in this school and the trustees and people all that ware present said they had nothing against Mr Gains This school House is not finished I called the attention of Trustees and people to it and they promised to plaster the House and have it Inshured during vacation Very Respectfully [[signature]] John H, Butler [[/signature]]
