Carolton Baltimore County Maryland
April 4th 1870

W.L. VanDerlip Superintendant of Education

Dear Sir
I visited the school at this place and found Miss. Fowler the teacher with 13 scholars present but she said that she had 27 scholars on the rool Books and an average attendance of about 19 scholars The school seemed to be only in tolerable good condition. I think this school could be much improved in numbers and discipline The House is only in tolerable good condition one coat of plaster badly put on and House not well built The House stands on leased ground at 75 cents per foot and is in debt for building and ground rent one hundred dollars The people do not work verry fast and they want [[calling?]] up to duty

Yours very Respectfully
