Catonsville Baltimore County Md.

April 5th 1870

W L Vanderlip Superintendant of Education

Dear Sir

The school here at this place is doing a little better than at Carolton but here they might do much better and I think they will increase in number Miss Julia Brooks the teacher says that her school have been much larger but the large children have been taken away to work The school numbers 38 on rool Book and about 32 average attendance The House is a verry good substancial one and finished off in good shape except the desks. They are very poor and not at all suffient to accomodate the scholars The location is a good one and a large school can be raised here.

Verry Respectfully

John H. Butler
