I very much regretted my absence at the time of your flying visit at Dexter, I was then particularly desirous of seeing you - Hope when you are next here I shall certainly meet you.

I wrote to Genl H. last winter asking - a position as Marshal officer to the Freed Men's Bureau - he deemed it impracticable at that time — I am now located here, but do not like Dexter, and am as restive and discontented as when I first left the army. - I am only here because I consider that my parents need me here.

Father's health is very poor, otherwise we are as usual - I think your friends here are in usual health.
