Office of N. Y. Natl F. R. Assocn.
Washington, May 31, 1866.

Rev. John Kimball,
Supt. Schools Freedmen's Bureau:

Dear Sir -
On further examination of the building at the corner of J and 17th Streets, I am satisfied that it is not sufficiently large to accommodate the family of teachers whom the N. F. R. Assocn. designs to support here the coming season. I think, however, that this building, together with the one now standing at the corner of 17th and K Streets, may be made to answer the purpose, provided the Assocn [[strikethrough]] is [[/strikethrough]] can be allowed to remove the latter building and place it close to the rear of the former on 17th Street, making it two stories in height and half the length that it now is. This will afford room for two or three more sleeping apartments, as well as for the matron's living rooms, ^[[insert]] both [[/insert]] which are essential for the purpose intended.

I, therefore, in behalf of the Assocn. respectfully apply through you to the Bureau of R., F. and A. L. for the use of the buildings referred to, together with all the small structures standing between the two on 17th Street, with the permission to make such [[strikethrough]] removals [[/strikethrough]] ^[[insert]] changes in position [[/insert]] and alterations
