The paper of P.S. Laws, I forwarded to Genl. Howard without remarks. He - Laws. - tells me this evening that the school Association have raised Seventy two ($72.00) dollars - cash in the treasury, and that he is confident they can increas it to one hundred and fifty.

Four or five weeks ago I urged upon the self supprting freed-people here to do some thing to asst in the support of schools. This Association is the result. If they [[hen?]] actually [[?]] the amount of money specified, it looks as if they were in earnest. I do not feel like making any suggestion in the matter - More than to give as my opinion that their money had better be given to aid in supprting already sent here,
