The herpetological department has every reason to look back upon the year 1891-'92 with satisfaction. The number of accessions was larger than during any previous year, 1055 specimens having been entered ^[[*checkmark]] ,

^[[footnote *checkmark]] For comparison it may be mentioned that the number of entries in 1890-'91 was 908; in 1889-'90, 705; in 1888-'89, 784; in 1887-'88, 19; in 1886-'87, 138.

and the material was not inferior, nor were the collections of less interest. Several very interesting species were added to the collection, some very rare, or for the first time, others hitherto undescribed.
