outstanding success of the [[underlined]]Smithsonian[[/underlined]] magazine, the Mail order program, and the Smithsonian Press. These increase revenues provided additional support for fellowships, exhibition and library needs; for further development of an integrated personnel-payroll system; and for additional research grants to Smithsonian professional staff. [[underlined]]FY 1985 - Budget (Schedule C)[[/underlined]]

--[[underlined]]Federal Appropriations[[underlined]]: As reported in the November Newsletter to the Board of Regents, the Institution's appropriation for fiscal year 1985 was included as part of the Continuing Resolution Bill (Public Law 98-473).  Funding provided to the Institution totaled $189,561,000, compared with a request for $196,932,000 and a fiscal year 1984 appropriation of $168,223,000.  Reductions to the Institution's request included a mandated two percent reduction applied to each line item in the Interior Appropriations Act and negative action on selected items.  Offsetting total reductions of almost $11.4 million were Congressional additions of approximately $4 million for a number of projects for which the Institution had not sough funding.
