THE SHOW-DOWN

Denver Dots & Dashes
By T.S. Williams

Calling all photos! Calling all photos! Calling all photos of Denver's boys and girls who have gone out into the little old world and made good in the profession. I am asking you to send me a photo of you or your organization to be placed in a beautiful panel on the wall of my confectionery next door to the Roxy Theatre here. Denver is proud of you and would like to do you homage. Just mail it to me, Roxy Theatre Bldg. Remember that the beautiful Miss Sally Cathrell, Editor of this Magazine, acceeded to my request and sent me her photo which will appear in the center of the group. You no doubt are aware that the Mid-West Elks Convention will convene here in July and we want them to see our contribution to the sepia side of this line.

By the way, Audy Kirk, one of our own, with his Twelve Clouds of Joy packed them in at The Rainbow for two weeks. Five Points got a close-up of the bunch at a dance at the Casino May 3-10, their off days. The latter date was filled at the Rainbow as the Casino only accommodates about 800 and was crowded the 3rd, while the Rainbow can take care of more than 1500 easily and believe you me there was but little room to elbow one's way through the crow. No boasting, but I had the honor of placing Andy with my organization some years ago, which was his first job, and the same applies to his wonderful wife known to us as Mary. Both played with me for more than two years and I am certainly proud of them. While on the subject, I want to speak of Atwell Rose of Los Angeles, who began playing with my band at the age of twelve. I do not know whether he is still in the line, but I can say that here is a little fellow who really had the stuff. I would certainly like to have his photo for my group, as I have been asked about him so often. Gerald Casey, brother of Teddy Drinkard, is another one of our boys, I wonder if he has time to let us hear from him and send a photo. I have Bob and Teddy's. My collection would not be complete without his photo. Theodore Morris, another one of my

Babe Brown and his Manhattan Band moved from the Gay Ninety Club to the Hollywood Club in Newark for sixteen weeks.... Dudley Brothers quartette discussing a thirteen week contract for a downtown (ofay) Club in Cleveland, Ohio, later going to Lake Placid, N. Y., for the summer.... Johnny Hartzog and his Sepia Rhythm Kings played played to a capacity crowd of eight hundred at the Easter Ball of the Daughter Elks, which brought out such charming ladies as Mesdames G. Daniels, L. M. Carpenter, Edna Edwards, L. Strothers, Ethel Noaker, Delois Thomas, Marie Richburg, B. Cooper, M. Ghorts. This writer would like to award the cross of honor to the committee for such a wonderful dance.... Jimmie Mills, clever singer and emcee, moved to the Moonglow Club in Buffalo, N. Y.
... This writer was surprised a couple of weeks ago, when he uncovered a wedding secret and I know you will be surprised, when I tell you that the charming little Ruth Lewis, formerly of Chicago and Buffalo, was married to Prince Ali Mondi, the Crystal Gazer from Chicago, on April 16. Accept my best wishes, Prince and Princess.... The Entertainers Club gave a matinee dance at the Airport Tavern, Easter Sunday, and was the "the-ats" on parade? Everyone in the profession responded to the call of Jimmie Mills the emcee from Bardo's Club, by giving their best in entertainment to the patrons.... Well, play boys, don't be lonesome over the departure of Louise Russ for New York City, you will see her when you go to the fight in June, so will I.... "The-ats," stop telling your employer nasty things about your coworker; that's very mean.... Dorothy Wheeler, I hope that wrist gets well and you can play the piano again.... The well known Ralph
