In and Around New York
By Maxie Maxwell

The young comic, Nicodemus, who wowed them with Cab Calloway and his orchestra, airplaned to Hollywood following his Pittsburgh engagement, where he will go Paramount. At the State the week before, Ralph Brown did not fail to take the audience with his rhythm of taps. Dynamite Hooker and his spectacular dance thrilled.

They're still leaving for England. Was thrilled with the Normandie appointments, when bidding adieu to the Three Little Words. They're in London and are featured with "The Crazy Revue". Three Dukes are also in Europe, with Harry Irons, Archie Ware, Raymond Thomas, Lloyd McDonald and George Braxton Tosh forming the Five Cracker Jacks who sailed August 12th aboard the S.S. California.

Luis Russell' last Apollo engagement was the tops. His swing music with Bobbie Caston and Sonny Woods was terrific. They rendered many of my favorites. Evelyn Keyes and her precision of taps were perfect. In support was the clean cut act of Burnham, Harris and Scott, presenting something different and quite unique.

Little Teddy Hale, Jr., known to the profession as Ted Lewis, Jr., with his perfect fitting white satin full dress, silk hat and bubbling talent, has played his third return engagement at the Apollo this season, rioting with his "Truckin" ala "Pig-meat".

A smart move on the part of the 101 Ranch Proprietor, when he renewed "Boots" Marshall's contract, now Lee-Boots is kicking higher than ever. Spent a pleasant night watching a very snappy revue with (other than "Boots" Marshall) the thrilling voice of Marjorie Sipp (also M.C.) Leon (Snake Hips) Hill, Alvin Turp and a clever dance team.

Alice Wanders, with her baby-toned voice, is chirping nightly in Spanish town, going over in a grand way. Ran into Edna Mae Holly and Evelyn (Streamline Sue) Robinson, Ubangi features. Also Vera Brackens. That comedy trio Pigmeat, John Mason and Jimmie Baskette is still wowing them with Pigmeat Truckin' up on a new Lincoln Zephyr.

The charming Clelia Wilson is the leading lady at the Big Apple, Hazel Ballard renders hot numbers and Ike Simmons adds the saxophone.

Tommie Campbell formerly of the Three Kadets, has joined the act of the Three Speed Demons, which is headed by Willie Cole.

My partner and I played an engagement at Peekskill, N.Y. An (ofay) Club Hotel you know, where we resided with the privilege to swim, canoe and a few rounds of golf. Treated more like guests than entertainers.
