Co. went to a field near his house on the 20th Oct 1865 and inflicted about 100 & 90 lashes respectively on his two children ages 10 and 8 years. | Arrested and committed to gaol at on the 27th Oct 1865

Co. has turned her and her two children away without any compensation for work done since her emancipation. | Investigated the case and found it to be totally false as the complainant has done no work & refuses to make a contract or work, ordered that if she refused to make a contract she was to be turned off the Plantation. 

" [[ditto for Oct]] 23rd. | Abraham Williams | Norcotts Neck Pitt Co | Complains that his employer John D. Williams of Norcotts Neck, Pitt. Co. has turned him away without compensation for work done & threatens to shoot him if he goes to get his clothes | Reserved for future action as from enquiries made I have reason to believe that the complaint is either false or exaggerated — but sent a note to Mr. W.

" [[ditto for Oct]] 23 | Redmond Grimes [[?]] | Yankee Hall, Pitt Co. | Complains the Geo. Alf. Carney went to his house on the 22nd Oct and drew a pistol on him threatening to shoot him. | Arrested & committed to gaol on the 27th Oct 1865 

" [[ditto for Oct]] 24 | Matterson Forman | Nr Greenville Pitt Co | Complains that his employer ^[[insertions]] William Forman [[/insertion]] refused to give him his proper share of crop &c and turned him away. | Sent a note which he refused to read so have summoned him to appear before me.

" [[ditto for Oct]] 24th | Silas Yellowday | Nr Greenville Pitt. Co. | Complains on oath, that on the 23rd Oct 1865 he was attacked by Geo. Alf. Carney, Enoch, More, Joseph Thomas More and John Renfrew who pointed guns & pistols at him & beat him severely on the head and body — inflicting two severe cuts on the head besides spraining his wrist and that Geo. Alf. Carney did draw a pistol and discharge it at him, wounding him in the finger. | Arrested Enoch More, Geo. Alf. Carney & John Renfrew on the 27th Oct & committed them to gaol at Washington N.C. — Joseph Thos More was badly shot by some party unknown on the 23rd and was unable to be removed. 

" [[ditto for Oct]] 26th [[?]] | Mary Anne Williams | Norcotts Neck Pitt Co | Complains that her employer John D. Williams of Norcotts Neck has turned her away without any compensation for work done and retains her clothing &c | Acted as in the case quoted above of Abraham Williams 


" [[ditto for Oct]] 27th | Dennis Forman | Nr. Greenville, Pitt. Co. | Complains that his employer William Forman of Nr. Greenville, Pitt Co. refused to give him any wages or share of crop & turned him off. | Acted as in the case of Matterson Forman as mentioned above
