POWER OF ATTORNEY.

Know all Men by these Presents,

That I, Jerry Bennett Roanoke Island, Currituck County, do hereby constitute and appoint JAMES E. FULLER, of Norfolk, Virginia, to be my true, lawful, and sufficient Attorney for me, and in my name, place, and stead to collect money due me for services rendered in Wr Mr  Department, at Plymouth & Roanoke island under the Superintendance of Sergt [[Saunders?]] by direction of Qr  Mr Kimbal from 18" May 1863 to 31st December 1863 and was promised $10 pr month and was never paid There is now due me $67.26 for which I have never recepted nor recieved.

I certify, that it is impossible at this time to procure a Certificate of the Officer, under whose direction the labor was performed, but that the record should be on file at the Q. M. Gen. Office, and for the purposes aforesaid, I do hereby grant unto my said Attorney full power to execute and deliver all needful instruments and papers, to endorse over or transfer any draft or bank check, or other order for the payment of money in my name, and to perform all and every act and thing whatsoever requisite and necessary to be done in and about the premises, as fully and completely, to all intents and purposes, as I might or could do if personally present; hereby ratifying and confirming all the acts of my said Attorney, or either of them, done by virtue and in pursuance of these presents, and hereby revoking all former powers of Attorney in this case.

In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, on the 4 day of Sept A. D., one thousand eight hundred and sixty Six at Roanoke Island

Be it Known, That on this 4" day of Sept in the year eighteen hundred and sixty Six before me, the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace, in and for said County and State, personally appeared Jerry Bennett to me known to be the identical person who executed the foregoing Letter of Attorney, and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and that I have no interest present or prospective in the claim. Contents made known and explained to all parties before signing and executing same.
