This deed, made this Thirteenth day of January, in the year eighteen Hundred and sixty eight by John C. Brawner of Washington D.C., William Boswell of Charles Co. Maryland, and Josiah Dent of Georgetown, D.C. Witnesseth, that in consideration of the sum of twenty five dollars, the said John C. Brawner, William Boswell and Josiah Dent do grant unto Benjamin Tubman, Richard Buger (white) and Henry Datcher, Walter Swann, and Coates Staten, colored, in trust for the purpose of erecting or allowing to be erected thereon a church and school house for the use, benefit, and education of the colored people of Charles County, Maryland, forever all that lot or parcel of ground, being a part of "South Hambton" lying in said County and which is described as follows: Beginning for the same at a stake planted in the ground
