This Deed, made this first day of October in the year 1867, between Edmund S. Calwell of the County of Greenbrier, and State of West Virginia, of the first part, and the Board of Education of the Township of the White Sulphur Springs, [[sd?]]. County, of the second part. 

Witnesseth: That in consideration of One dollar, the said party of the first part doth grant unto the said party of the second part. A certain lot or parcel of land, adjacent to the lands of the White Sulphur Springs Company, and the lands of Edmund S. Calwell, and the lands of Bedford Calwell, containing one sixth of an acre (more or less.) situate one fourth of a mile east of the White Sulphur Springs; and designated by the following boundaries, to wit: 

Beginning on the South Side of the Covington & Ohio Rail Road at a stake opposite the lot of John F. Garring adjacent to a meadow of E.S. Calwell, running S. 65°, W.C poles to a stake and N. 38° W. 5 1/3 poles to a stake on the edge of said meadow, thence N. 55° E. 6 poles to a stake, and N. 38° W. 5 1/3 poles to stake at the beginning. It is covenanted and agreed by and between the parties, that the above lot, is to be used, for the benefit of the freedmen, or person of colour for the erection of a School House, for their use and benefit only; and which house is to be appropriated solely for Educational and religious purposes. And the said party of the first part covenant with the party of the second part, that he will warrant generally the property hereby conveyed.
