Filming is under way for a 15-20-minute film that the Smithsonian is producing on the Archives of American Art. Initial shooting took place at the Archives' Washington headquarters on July 23 and will be followed by filming at the Boston Archives and at Sculptor George Rickey's studio in Canaan, New York. Filming will continue this month at the New York Archives and the Roman Bronze Works in Queens, and preliminary editing is scheduled for later early fall.

Principal filming for a show on the Wilkes Expedition began on July 18 aboard the tall ship [[underlined]] Amerigo Vespucci,[[/underlined]] which set sail from Baltimore Harbor into the Chesapeake Bay. Two camera crews, one on deck and the other on a chase boat, shot footage of Lieutenant Wilkes and his sailors in period costume to simulate the actual Exploring Expedition of 1838-42. The film is being produced by the Smithsonian for circulation to junior high and high schools nationwide.

The children's television mini-pilot SMITHSONIAN QUEST, completed in June, is now being screened. Preliminary showings for the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Associate Director for Children's Programs at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the President of the Educational Film Center in Virginia, have brought enthusiastic responses.

[[underlined]] Designation of the Chancellor Emeritus [[/underlined]]

Mr. Humelsine, speaking on behalf of his fellow Regents, mentioned that this is the 45th meeting of the Regents that Chief Justice Burger has led in his 17 years as Chancellor. "Under your leadership," he added, "the Smithsonian has witnessed its greatest growth in its history, in both the quantity and quality of its programs. I'm certain
