The first issue of [[underlined]] Smithsonian Studies in American Art [[/underlined]] debuts in April 1987. This journal will provide an interdisciplinary approach to an understanding not only of specific artists and art objects, but also of the cultural factors that have shaped American art from colonial to contemporary times. Each 96-page issue will include black and white and color illustrations and will offer articles that combine sound scholarship with thought provoking interpretations or new avenues of research. The editorial board is composed of William C. Agee, Wayne Craven, David Huntington, Karal Ann Marling, Jules D. Prown, and John Wilmerding. [[underlined]] Smithsonian Studies in American Art, [[/underlined]] available through subscription, will be published twice yearly, in April and October, by the Oxford University Press in association with the National Museum of American Art.
