The implementation of the Plan as scheduled is estimated to cost in the range of one hundred million dollars, and will replace and upgrade the "life-support" systems so critical to the operation of the Museum.

The implementation of the construction tasks, especially the HVAC, accomplishes the long-range goal of the Museum: Maintaining a tightly controlled temperature and relative humidity while at the same time reducing energy consumption by utilizing energy-conscious design and energy-efficient equipment.

The Plan provides for long-term goals, but cannot provide for the immediate needs of the Museum. Much of the mechanical and electrical equipment cannot be patched and remain operational until the Plan can be implemented. In order that the Master Plan may be implemented in an orderly manner over the next 14 years, certain corrective measures [[underlined]] must [[/underlined]] be taken in the interim period. To plan ahead and provide for the replacement of certain equipment, an Interim Corrective Measures Report has been prepared. This report identifies scheduled dates and estimated costs for the replacement of equipment during the interim period.

It is [[underlined]] important [[/underlined]] to note that the interim corrective measures do not solve the environmental problems that exist in the Museum. Their implementation should not be considered as a substitute for the Plan, but instead provide for the necessary repair and replacement of equipment to keep the facility operational while the Plan is being implemented.
