exhibits that are not activities of, or housed in, specific bureaus, and all international museum training programs, will continue to be directed to the Office of Museum Programs and to the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, with oversight by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Museums.

• A new Office of Conference Services has been created, assigned to the Assistant Secretary for Public Service. This new office will be an institution-wide service organization established to facilitate conferences and workshops initiated by scholars and staff throughout the Institution. To launch this major new service unit for the Institution, the International Activities Council has asked Cheryl LaBerge to assume duties as the Acting Director of the Office of Conference Services.

• Several programs will remain under the direct supervision of the Assistant Secretary for Research, including the Quincentenary Program, the Research Exchanges Program and the Smithsonian Institution Man and the Biosphere/Biological Diversity Program office, as well as affiliated independent organizations such as the Council of American Overseas Research Centers and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
