VOTED that the Board of Regents appoints Jeannine Smith Clark to the Commission of the National Portrait Gallery to complete a term expiring in January 1992.

[[underlined]] PROPOSAL TO NAME EXHIBITION GALLERY [[/underlined]]

Mr. Adams introduced a proposal to name a special exhibition gallery in honor of one of the museum's founders (to be announced later). As the Regents by policy have reserved to themselves the authority for the naming of Smithsonian facilities, it was so voted.

[[underlined]]STATUS REPORTS [[/underlined]]

Mr. Adams referred to status reports prepared on the following Smithsonian programs and activities. In discussion which ensued, the Regents were assured that the Institution's safety program has been augmented substantially over the last several years and now includes not only visitor and employee safety in the traditional sense but also a total range of environmental conditions and extensive training for staff. Special attention was drawn to the Child Care Center which is to be opened in two weeks at the National Museum of American History. Finally, referring to the report on the Survey Research Program, the Secretary spoke briefly about some of the very preliminary results of a full-year study, now in progress, of visitors to the National Air and Space Museum.
