During the month of January the number of entries in the catalogue of fishes was 391 (from 29831 to 30221, both inclusive).

Of these, from 29835 to 29863 were from Dr H. A. Alford Nicholls of Dominica, West Indies. This is one of a series of collections recently forwarded by Dr Nicholls and contains several species which have not previously been in the museum ([[underlined]] Gobius banana, Doryichthys lineatus, [[strikethrough]] Eques punctatus [[/strikethrough]], Rhomboidichthys lunatus, Scarus aurofrenatus, Agonostoma microps [[/underlined]].) 

Silas Stearns has sent from Pensacola, Florida, many species of fishes, several of which are new to the collection ([[underlined]] Tylosurus [[/underlined]] sp., [[underlined]] Rhinobatus [[/underlined]] sp., [[underlined]] Trachynotus glaucus [[/underlined]] [new locality], [[underlined]] Narcine brasiliensis, Hemirhombus [[/underlined]] sp., [[underlined]] Eques [[/underlined]] sp., and a [[underlined]] Gobiid [[/underlined]] with the radial formula: D.vi, 22 ; A. 22). Mr. Stearns has also forwarded in ice a fresh example of [[underlined]] Batrachus tau [[/underlined]] subspecies [[underlined]] pardus [[/underlined]]. Many important species have been received from Mr. Stearns from time to time during the last three years; some of these have been set aside for more detailed study
