Prof. Spencer F. Baird,

Director U.S. National Museum,

Sir;

I beg leave to offer, at this late hour, a report of the operations, during the month of April, of the department of fishes. My time, and that of my assistants, has been largely occupied in the cataloguing of collections and preparations for the installation of fishes in the new hall. Mr. Miner has received suggestions concerning the field work of the commission.

I have arranged the material of the present report under the following headings:

1. Fishes catalogued,
2. Fish-drawings completed,
3. Packages distributed,
4. Fishes received,
5. Papers received for Proceedings N.M.,
6. Papers received for Bulletin F.C.

Yours very respectfully,
Tarleton H. Bean,
Curator Dept. of Fishes.
