Prof. Spencer F. Baird,
Director U. S. National Museum,
Sir;

I beg leave to offer my report of progress in the Department of Fishes during the month of May, 1882.

In addition to the regular work upon the fishes and copy for the museum publications a great deal of my time was occupied in helping Mr. Turner prepare his outfit for collecting in Labrador.

My assistants have been engaged in connection with the installation of collections mainly.

The material of the present report is presented under the usual heads: 1. Fishes catalogued, 2. Drawings completed, 3. Packages distributed, 4. Fishes received, 5. Papers received for Proc., 6. Papers reviewed for Bull. F.C.

Very respectfully yours,
