MEN'S ROOM
by Bernice Peck

May those two words fetch your interest to what interests me: stuff to make men look, smell and feel handsomer (keep your hands to yourself, woman).

To put a fellow's skin in clover, andy weather, the new Monsieur Rochas Conditioning Group: foam for tub or shower/body fitness rub/aftershave conditioner. Nice, spiced up with smoky wood essences and aromatic herbs, each about $6.

Chanel For Men is, in the company's own words, "spirited yet reserved, as distinguished as he is." Exactly. For the really classy, classic gent, five male Chanels, from cologne to moisturizing aftershave, along with a goodlooking travel case, $35.

Brand new, Blend 30 from Dunhill has broad hints of leather/rosewood/balsam. Attractive. In eau de toilette, $10.50, with the long famous Dunhill ashtray tossed in.

Lavender is a lovely way for a guy to smell. They are not all the same. Thus, Agua Lavanda by Puig of Barcelona is quite a different dish of lavender indeed. Picked (wild) from along the Spanish coast, its sun-warmed zest is robust, stimulating, $10 - and hey gang, some of the star matadors use it.

Caron's pure lavender is marvelous (so clean), in their Pour Un Homme cologned, $10. Also Caron, on quite another wave length, the openly inviting Yatagan, luxe in a tweedy travel kit, $25 for cologne, aftershave, soap. One more, Caron's Royal Bain de Champagne, fruit-notes in a right kingly vintage, $12.

Karl Lagerfeld's Lagerfeld is in a class by itself - just rich and authoritative. Warm with tabac/woods/spices and with a long-term cling. $12.50 in cologne, $13.50 in his creamy aftershave baume.

Derric, Orlane's first eau de toilette for a man, brings up wonderful whiffs of nutmeg, coriander, patchouli. And besides, comes in a striking bottle patterned after (clever), a strike-it-rich oil can, $10.

Christmas cometh. Buy yourself, or someone, something scented swell.

It's a lighter, mellower, better tasting whisky.

And that's my professional opinion.

Suntory Royal.

Whether you serve it in porcelain, pottery or on a paper plate, you can't beat the taste of Carolina's Bake-It-Easy flavored rice. The secret? Baking. Baking gives our chicken, beef, Spanish and Oriental flavors a richer taste through and through. So next time, don't simmer or sauté. Bake-It-Easy! Because rice tastes best when it's baked.
