State of North Carolina, Robeson County Sept. 14th 1865 Know ye all it may concern that John B. Howell, Nelly a freed woman of color hath entered into an agreement with John B. Howell of the first part, I the said John B. Howell I do promise to give her own crop of Corn and five bushels out side of hers- also four bushels of Potatoes, also 30 lbs of Pork or $1.25 in money, the boy Cade I gave him the turpentine he is making suppose he will make 2 Blls I will then give his mother Nelly $10.00 in money for his labor, the date first above written given under my hand and seal John B. Howell [[seal]] H. B. Howell Nelly of the second part that I am satisfied with the above bargain with John B.
