Lumberton N.C. Sept 25 1865 

This indenture made and entered into this 25th day of Sept a. D. 1865 between John Walker ^[[insertion]] Planter [[/insertion]] of Robeson Co. of the first part and Marcus Mc Millan Freed laborer of the other part. Witnesseth that the above named John Walker agrees, covenants and by these presents binds himself to pay to the said Marcus Mc Millan 10 bushels of Potatoes, 15 bushels of corn, 100 lbs of Pork and 5 gallons of Molasses, with food clothing and medical attendence, said John Walker futher binds himself to treat said laborer kindly giving him all the priviliges which he enjoyed previous to entering into the contract. And the said Marcus Mc Millan on his part agrees to receive the above named compensation in full of all demand for his labor from the 27th of April 1865 to the 1st of Jan. 1866, to be respectful in his deportment obeying all the lawful orders of the said Walker as he had been in the habit of doing when a slave.
