Contract for Labor.

This indenture, made and interd into on the 17th day of January 1866 between Jno W Davis of the county of Nash & State of Northcarolina of the first Part, and the undersign Freed Laborers of the second Part

Witnesseth that the said Laborers have agreed to work for the said John W Davis From This day, Jany 17th 1866 to the First day of January 1867 To do all kind of Labor common to the Farmers of The county. To ^[[insertion]] Do [[/insertion]] there work faithfully and to be respectful in there deportment and they further agree that one Half of there mounthly pay shall be retained by said Jno W. Davis untill the End of the year and the amount so retained shall be forfited By a violation of the contract. and they further agree that time Lost by Idleness or absence with out Leave shall not be paid for and the said Jno W Davis Has agreed that he will furnish the said [[Laborer?]] laborers with comfortable quarters sufficient Rations, the amt of money per mounth which stands opesit there respective names and treat them kindly.
