To see Whistler etchings & lithographs with R.C. is a treat.  He has a feeling for a line, an effect, a bit of color which is wonderful.  Mr. R. told him that the dome in the distance from the Tomb of Napoleon.  
"What do I care about that", he cried angrily, "does it matter to me what it is - It is a spot."  We went to the Art Exhibition & to see his giraffes.  The latter was a real sensation.  It is great.  I mean it seems to me to be really very great.  He says it is & he loves it.  We went to see the big Studio he has taken.  (He has a faculty for getting the best which I admire)  He says that spots in art are decadent.  He tried to explain what he meant.  It is simply that spots happen to effect him physically.
