talks I have ever had with a man.  We talked of girls and men in general and also in particular.  That night I dined at the Brooks.  Harry Whitney took me in and I was happy.  Before dinner he came up to me and said "let's sit down over there", and I started to where he motioned.

"I am to take you in to dinner anyway," he said.

I started and turned to him:

"Then you don't want to talk to me now", I said,

"We will go back and some one else will speak to me".

He smiled in that attractive way of his and said:

"Sit down, sit down.  Why do you say that?"

Of course I did sit down and we began talking  I told him of the sail I had had with C.V.Jr. that afternoon and of how I liked it because he told me so many things then.  And he said there were no confidences between him and Pauline and then dinner was announced and we went in.  It was the nicest
