What a dear, old forgetful fellow he is! Yesterday when I went over to see Pauline he was there. He said he did'nt like calling it was so unsatisfactory & formal. You [[underlined]] had [[/underlined]] to talk therefore the conversation was strained. He liked to see people when he was smoking and so just speak when the spirit moved him. I told him when he came to see me he could sit with his feet on the mantel piece and smoke, and have a brandy & soda. It amused him & he said he would not forget.
