A whole shipload of packages arrived this afternoon but nothing for me... One of the boys received a package sent out sometime in the middle of May. Other packages, dating as far back as March still have not yet come... You figure it out, I can't.

26 June 1945

I watched the dawn come up over the Pacific. The cloud formation at this time of the year are among the most beautiful I have ever seen. Wispy, high clouds, stretching elongated clouds, puffy, cotton ball clouds, heavy, dark, pregnant-with-rain clouds and an innumerable variation of these can be seen at one time or another during the course of the day. 

The B-29's started going over early this morning and two squadrons from Maple Field, a couple from Walnut Field and two from the new Pearl Field near the north end of the island took off and flew escort for the Big Boys. 

The 21st Bomber Command announced that in the first three month period after Iwo was captured 800 B-29's had had to make emergency landings. Counting about 11 men to a plane that makes about 9000 men saved who otherwise might have had to go into the Pacific Ocean. Iwo has really paid of in its high cost.
