It will have occurred to you that anyone who mounts a horse in that leapfrog fashion is trusting a great deal to the good nature of the horse.  Just in case you should ever want to try it, I will tell you how to insure against getting kicked.  You must get someone else to lift one of the horse's forefeet into the air and hold it, as a blacksmith would in fitting a shoe.  As long as that forefoot stays off the ground the horse will not kick with his hind ones.  The horses I tried to jump on must have had their patience worn pretty thin, but none of them kicked.
