to city along beaches that are really exquisite. But at some point at the Barra, where we end up staying we are on beach by the bay (Biaia Todos Santos).

And the water is gentle w/o breakers (I end up having 2 exquisite swims on an "urban" beach which is so calm & perfect for swimming I can't believe it.)

Stay at the Barra Turismo Hotel (7 Setiembre Rua). On the beach - altho there's lots of traffic noise until late at night, early morning.

Go from upper to lower city & have lunch at the Mercado. Then spend $ at the market & get very cranky.

folkloric center with restaurant (SENAC) in very old part of town. School for training people in restaurants but they do folklore show - which isn't that good.

Also, visited 2 churches (moldy churches - according to Dietz) - São Francisco with a monastery & a lay church next door where lay brothers skeletons were buried in a crypt in a basement & the front was a baroque'y' style.
