and pump up to the houses. Saturnino hopes to pump H2O up to a new guard house at the Reserve's entrance @ 3 km away.

Kitchen & bathroom facilities look really good & clean & useful altho they don't have pots & pans & Saturnino complained bitterly @ lack of money for small things.

No electricity, but the 2 houses would be perfectly workable for a research project. Entry road off main asphalt is terribly eroded now, but is to be paved by CEPLAC.

Reserve has good trail system, used by guards on horseback.

Apparently there is some urgency to paying off squatters. They have been prohibited from planting for the past year & are threatening to start planting crops again.

Reserve not yet completely fenced. To get from headquarters of Reserve in Northern sector to region with squatters is nearly a five hour return trip drive due to bad roads. There are GHT in the area & some decent forest. But roads are v. bad.

Estimated to be 60 families in Reserve. Little hunting pressure in the N. sector where there are few people.

Saturnino thinks that the land near the Reserve has considerable decent forest remaining.
