TO THE HOUSEWIFE
Recently, the households of Lockbourne Army Air Base were issued some console tables that have many uses.
In the smaller dining nooks, this table can be used for dining. Also in the dining room, it can be used as a server. This is convenient for the busy hostess who entertains frequently.
In the living room, this table is quite versatile. A pair of vases makes it very attractive. A candy dish can be placed between the vases.
Books may easily be placed on this table with a small table lamp. Nothing taller than the side should be placed on the table when it is used in the console position. The side can be dropped for living room use.
This table can be used for games also, but it should always be covered in order to preserve the finish of the wood.

PICNICS
July is the month for picnics. The following is a delightful picnic menu:

Salad-Stuffed Rolls
(Soft Rolls Filled With Tuna Salad)
Deviled Eggs Potato Chips
Dill Pickles
Spicy Sponge Cake Fresh Fruit
Coffee

Wrap each filled roll in waxed paper. Put eggs together in pairs; wrap each in lettuce leaf held wit toothpicks. Bake cake in loaf pan; remove to cool; replace in pan to frost and carry. Carry coffee in thermos bottles for easy service.
If you like a hobo hike, tie your lunch in a square of red-checked gingham--opened it's a napkin and a lapkin. Use foods that will not mash easily.

CHECK YOUR MEASURE METHODS
Better cooks today re measure-minded. Here are some essential rules
3 teaspoons equal one tablespoon
2 tablespoons equal one liquid ounce
4 tablespoons equal 1/4 cup
5 1/3 tablespoons equal 1/3 cup
8 tablespoons equal 1/2 cup
12 tablespoons equal 3/4 cup
16 tablespoons equal one cup
2 cups equal one pint
4 cups equal 1 quart
4 quarts equal one gallon

Flour: Sift flour (except whole wheat or rye) before measuring. Spoon lightly into measuring cup until heaping full, and level top with the edge of a spatula or straight knife. DIpping four with the measuring cup shakes the air out. Sifting directly into cup causes 1 tablespoon undermeasure.

Facts: To measure by replacement, partially fill glass measuring cup with water, leaving just enough space for the specified measure of shortening. Push shortening down until water rises to the 1 cup mark. To measure by packing, press shortening tightly in the right size measure and level.

Liquids: Set your measuring cup on a flat surface, and fill exactly to the desired mark, bonding to read at eye level. Do not hold the cup in your hand; you'll slant the surface and get an inaccurate reading.

FOR COOL HOUSES
Take winter drapes down and use glass curtains for the summer season. Light slip covers on furniture tend to make the house cooler.
Try painting your walls to rid them of the winter soot. Do this in an attractive color--light enough to let in the proper lighting.
