the Javelin, and the Discus aside from winning many 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places to total the highest number of points.
Scott AFB came first in the Broad Jump, the High Jump, and the Hop, Step and Jump and showed up in enough subsequent spots to be awarded the Third Prize Trophy.
Four beautiful co-eds, selected as "queens" from the West High School student body, pinned the individual medals on the winning trackmen as they mounted the Victory Stand following each event.
Sgt. Berry, lone representative of Griffis AFB, Romo, New York, brought the crowds to their feet by his flashy victory in the breathtaking 2 Mile Run.
Lockbourne's Hal Whitfield, also of Ohio State University, was also shown to great advantage in the various events in which he participated by winning first place each time.
The Mitchell AFB trio of Stamper, Facciolla, and Foy, exhibited rare accomplishment in athletics for the benefit of the cheering throngs who showered them with applause.
Scott AFB's Jones and Givens were largely responsible for the success enjoyed by this third place in the contests.
Military and civic dignitaries from all sections of the eastern United States were honored guests at the great track and field program. Major Edward C. Gleed welcomed the visitors to Columbus and to Lockbourne Air Force Base for the gala day. Representatives of the press were also present to give ample publicity to the proceedings which might have served as springboard for the rise of
