future Olympic champions.
On Saturday evening, a banquet honoring all of the participants in the athletic contests was given at the Lockbourne Air Force Base Officers' Club. The three prize trophies were awarded to the victorious teams during the course of the banquet.
The success of the Eastern Area Air Force Track and Field Meet could not have been as great without the wholehearted cooperation of the visiting teams, the citizens of Ohio, and the many guests. All events were carried off smoothly and without mishap due to the overall spirit of congeniality and goodwill that surrounded the entire Meet.
The famed 766th USAF Band from Lockbourne AFB played a medley of appropriate tunes throughout the afternoon and trumpeteers, from the band, sounded fanfare each time the winners ascended the Victory Stand to receive medals from the four "queens".
This Track and Field Meet is indicative of the importance that the Air Force attaches to athletic programs. These athletic programs assist greatly in attaining the mission of the peacetime organization. Physical training helps maintain a healthy and strong body for the airmen. The spirit of competition and good sportsmanship goes a long way to develop sound moral habits in American youth.
