General Hoyt S. Vandenburg will be the new Chief of Staff, United States Air Force. Gen. Vandenburg, 49 years old, is the first of the new generation to command the Air Force. He went into the Air Corps directly from West Point and had a pre-war reputation as the best fighter pilot in the service.
