At Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, 1939-1941, he was a Commanding Officer, 2rd Engineers, and then Principal Assistant of the Department Road and Trail Project. From 1941 to 1944 he was assigned member War Department, General Staff, Washington, D., with duty first in the War Plans Division (WPD) and then in the Operations Division (OPD), which was organized in March 1942.  In 1944, he was assigned command of the 1162d Engineer Combat Group, which trained at Camp Bowie, Texas, and operated in ETO.  After the war, he commanded the 1154th Engineer Combat Group at Camp Polk, Louisiana, Camp White, Oregon, and Fort Lewis, Washington. From 1946 to 1949, he was Officer-in-Charge, European Office, American Battle Monuments Commission, Paris, France, from which detail he reported to the AWC. His next duty is to be District Engineer, Huntington District, Ohio Valley Division, Corps of Engineers, Huntington, West Virginia. His wife, Betty, is from Memphis, Tennessee; they have one daughter, Carol (age 8).

ORVILLE LAIRD, COLONEL, USAF, 962A

Born 9 February 1907 at Crowell, Texas. Attended Texas A&M College, graduating in Electrical Engineering in 1930. Completed 2 years of graduate work in Business Administration at Northwestern University in 1935. Ordered to active duty at Hamilton Field, Calif. in February 1941 where he served as Base Communications Officer, Signal Officer IV Air Support Command and Communications Officer Tenth Pursuit Wing. At the outbreak of war, he was transferred to Headquarters Fourth Air Force where he assisted in the engineering, installation and operation of the Air Defense System of the West Coast. After the war ended, he was sent to Japan where he served as Commanding Officer V Fighter Command, which was later redesignated as the 315th Air Division. His proposed assignment after leaving the AWC is Deputy Commander, Air Force Security Service, Brooks Field, Texas. His wife, Adeline, is from Texarkana, Arkansas. Children are Patrick (age 6), and Frank (age 4).

CORNELIUS A. LICHIRIE, LT. COLONEL, USA, 0-18371

Born on 26 September 1906, "Corny" comes from New York City. Upon graduation from NYU in 1927, he went to West Point and joined the class of '31. From there he tried for the Air Corps but did not show the required sensitivity in the seat of his pants. Cavalry became his field and except for a tour on CCC duty has spent all his time in that field. On return from a tour in the Philippines in 1940, he was assigned to the 1st Armored Division at Fort Knox. In September 1942 he joined the 10th Armored Division at Fort Benning as CO of the 90th Ren. Bn. He trained this unit and took it overseas in 1944, staying with it until he became trains CO and then C/S of the Division in 1945. Upon conclusion of the war, he was on duty at Hq EUCOM and in 1946 became G-2 of the Continental Base Section. In 1947 he returned to the States and came to Hq 3rd Army in the G-2 Section.
