My dear Mr. Balch:

I hope you will not feel it presumptuous on my
part if I give these few lines of introduction to my
good friend of long standing, Mr. John E. Thacher of
The Fogg Museum, Harvard University.

Mr. Thacher is visiting Los Angeles shortly for
the first time for a brief stay and is naturally very
anxious to see all that is worthwhile in the way of
art in your city. I have taken the liberty of tell-
ing him about your very fine group of Flemish and
Dutch pictures which I know that he will want very
much to see.

I cannot recommend Mr. Thacher to you too highly,
for you will find him not only a fine scholar and well
posted on all matters pertaining to art, but also a
very charming and delightful person.

With my sincere appreciation and thanks in ad-
vance for your kindness in receiving him, and with
my best wishes,
Believe me to be
Yours very sincerely,
Alan C. Balch, Esq.
