Dr. A. C. Barnes,
24 North 40th street
Philadelphia, Pa.

Dear Sir,-

Dr. A.L. Mayer, of the Pinakothek Museum in Munich, has asked me to write to you to recommend you a very fine historical painting by Goya, which we have just brought over. This picture is the famous self portrait of Goya and of his Doctor Arrieta, picture which had disappeared since it had been exhibited in 1860 at the Academia San Fernando, and which was only up to recently known for the copies made at the time by Goya's pupil, Julia.

This picture is quoted in the book on Goya by Beruete, in the books by Lafont, by Count de la Vinoza, by Dr. Mayer. This picture just arrived in New York and nobody has seen it yet.

We have also another picture by Goya, which is one of his finest and most important portraits. It represents a lady three quarters size, also reproduced and quoted in most of the books by Goya. This picture is in our possession only since this morning, and it would be glad if you would kindly let us know whether you are interested. In any case, we would be delighted to show you these pictures.

Pray believe us,

Sincerely yours,
