The Director,
The Jacques Seligmann Galleries,
5 East 57th Street,
New York 22, N.Y.

Dear Sir,

I would be very grateful for your help.

I am making a study of the painter Corneille de Lyon (16th century, French School) and am hoping to publish a work which would include a catalogue of as many of his paintings as possible, both in public galleries and in private collections. The Frick Art Reference Library in New York has been very helpful in listing for me the main private owners of pictures by Corneille de Lyon in the United States. It has also listed for me the leading Galleries where pictures by this artist have been exhibited in the past, and as your Gallery is included in this list, I would be very grateful indeed to hear of any of these portraits which have passed through your Gallery, and, if possible, their present whereabouts.

I note also that in 1963 your Gallery possessed a [[underlined]] Portrait of René Du Puy Du Fou [[/underlined]] by Corneille de Lyon. It had occurred to me that your portrait might be the one now in the G.H.A. Clowes Collection, at the John Herron Art Museum, Indianapolis, and figuring as No.19 in their Catalogue. The Clowes portrait of [[underlined]] René Du Puy Du Fou [[/underlined]] was formerly in the Walter Gay Collection, Paris, and while in this Collection was exhibited at the [[underlined]] Exposition des primitifs français [[/underlined]] at the Louvre in 1904. It was later exhibited at the Exhibition of [[margin]] ^[[#177, #49 [[/margin]] [[underlined]] Chefs d'oeuvre de l'art français [[/underlined]] in Paris in 1937. I would be very grateful if you could throw any light on this matter.

I enclose an International Reply-Coupon and wish to thank you sincerely for any help you are kind enough to give me in this matter.

Yours sincerely,
