[[boxed]] Lucrezia Bori SENORITA LUCREZIA BORI came as a Christmas gift to her parents in [[redacted]] the lovely city of Valencia, Spain. Taking unto herself the sunshine of her native land she has made it so thoroughly a part of her very being that she sings and smiles her way into everyone's heart. Making her debut at the tender age of six her studies for a few years were done under Farvaro in Spain. Journeying thence to Italy she began work under Vidal and after but six months of intensive study made her second debut——this time as a mature artist at the Adriano in Rome as Micaela in Carmen. In 1913 an avalanche of praise rolled at her feet from the critics and public on this side of the Atlantic when she made her debut at the Metropolitan as Manon with Caruso as Des Grieux. One hears the voice of bygone centuries in the chiselled phrases of her fourteenth century songs, and what exquisite tenderness in the delicately powdered and be-ruffled Mozart arias! With forty opera roles in her repertoire, with hundreds of songs classical, modern, in the romance languages, and many too in English, Bori's programs are as alive as her personality is vivid. From Handel to de Falla, from Gluck to Gershwin, Bori has that "sophistication, subtle nuance of phrasing, gaiety, dashing vivacity, keen wit and delicately mocking sentiment——in short that fine intellectual perception which rank her as queen of the lyric stage."
