Dear Mr. Seligman:

Thank you for your kind thoughts about my work on the Watteau. The back of the panel is waxed for protection, and the [[strikethrough]] back ha [[/strikethrough]] picture has a very light coat of polyvinyl acetate sprayed over the varnish. This is simply an added protection against deterioration. The box is air-tight. I cannot believe that the panel will ever misbehave with this insulation.

It would have been a little easier to fit the frame to the box, than the box to the frame. I merely point this out in case a similar problem should occur in the future.
