[[underlined]] MY BROTHER [[/underlined]] -- I hope you have found the little picture he was looking for. If not, keep an eye on it and, of course, I rely on you to see that he gets something very good.

[[underlined]] BIRNBAUM [[/underlined]] -- I have heard from different sources here in New York that he is in Paris, and I would not be surprised at all if he were on the verge of concluding the purchase of an important painting. Try to find out what it is all about and which picture it is.

Paul, I think of you often and wish you would make up your mind to come to this country, were it only for a short time. Life is quite pleasant here, but economically and morally, people are extremely depressed and to such an extent that one can hardly believe it or understand it because basically conditions here are all right. You would never think so, however, by looking at the way stocks have been going down lately and the poverty talk which everyone indulges in.

Yours as ever,

(C. M. de Hauke)
