Dear Mr.Séligmann;

Forgive my late reply to your letter.It came in the midst of the Christmas rush and I am just digging myself out.

I am horrified that you should want to denude my walls of pictures! Perhaps you would take a grandchild off my hands in place of the 'blue' Picasso---I would sell it almost as willingly.

No,I don't truly want to sell anything except possibly the little blue and pink Bonnard. Of that I am not particularly fond because I like the 'Salle-a-manger' so much better. It is my theory that in a small collection with restricted limits each artist represented must be liked for himself and each picture must represent a subject,period and pattern which particularly pleases the collector. That is the way our [[underlined]] very [[/underlined]] small collection has been built up and I don't want to unbalance it until I am obliged to.

At any rate I am pleased and flattered that you like so many of our things and I shall look forward to seeing you if ever again I get to New York.

We both send you our best wishes for the New Year

Very sincerely yours
