Dear Mr. Burden:

Chance had it that on Saturday afternoon I had the visit of a client who was looking for a Segonzac, of whose work I have no examples at present.

I immediately thought of the picture you had spoken about, and I am wondering, therefore, whether you could let me have it for a few days, as there may be, thus, an opportunity of selling it advantageously.

Should I succeed, we would have the solution for your acquiring the Vuillard painting on the basis of the price you suggested.

As I told you, it would mean so very much to me if you could become the owner of this most exceptional painting of such merit, and I feel certain both Mrs. Burden and you would be happy to have it in the years to come.
