was in this condition that Mr. Burke acquired it. Later on Dr. Dewild of Knoedler restored it to its original condition and wrote a note on the back of the canvas "Repaint taken off by me, Dr. Dewild".

All the Millets are listed in Sensier's "Life of Millet".
COROT "Orpheus and Eurydice"

[[underlined]]Note[[/underlined]] Exhibited in Salon of 1865. As originally executed, a tree separated the two persons, but later, as a result of the criticism of his friends, Corot painted out the tree trunk, leaving traces of the foliage on the canvas. Robaut has both versions in his book.
