CT ES April 1, 1929 Dear Madam: In answer to your letter of March 29th regarding your inquiry about a painting of MARIE ANTOINETTE, we would like to tell you that we can not possibly give you an opinion of this painting without seeing it. However, we can tell you that Mme. Vigee LEBRUN was the favorite portrait painter of MARIE ANTOINETTE and painted numerous portraits of the French queen, two of which are in The LOUVRE, and the remainder in other museums and private collections. There were, however, very many copies made of these pictures, both by contemporary artists and by artists of the 19th century, and therefore, as I said before, it would be impossible for us to give you any opinion of your picture without first seeing it. Thank you, however, for writing us, believe us to be Yours very truly, JACQUES SELIGMANN & CO., Inc., Mrs. M. Burke, 1832 Seventh Avenue, Troy, N. Y.
