The older I grow, the more I am convinced that there is no education which one can get from books and costly apparatus that is equal to that which can be gotten from contact with great men and women. Instead of studying books so constantly, how I wish that our schools and colleges might learn to student men and things!

LET THE PEOPLE KNOW

The very foundation for effective cooperation among individuals in a community, or peoples in the community of nations, is education--i.e., information and understanding. That is why the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is destined to play a key role in the building of a peaceful world society.

Every effort is being made to build UNESCO as an organization of the proples by the peoples and for the peoples. While delegations to UNESCO Conferences are official Government representatives, these delegates are to work in close cooperation with National Advisory Commissions of noted educators and representatives from educational institutions and organizations working in the field of popular education.

At the Conference which will meet in Paris on November 19th, foremost on the agenda will be measures for educational reconstruction, for the exchange of students, faculty, artists and experts, and for the development of more effective methods of fostering international understanding. November has been officially designated as UNESCO month to be observed by citizens of member countries.
