GIANT BAZAAR FOR THE LIBRARY

Looking for the Playbill of the original production of Guys and Dolls? The souvenir book of the original My Fair Lady? The original cast album of Flora the Red Menace? A poster of Arsenic and Old Lace? A window card for Follies? You may find all of these and much more at bargain prices at the GIANT BAZAAR for the benefit of the Performing Ars Research Center, The New York Public Library at Lincoln Center, on Sunday November 21.

1976 is the fifth year for this collector's paradise; from past experience we know the lines are long when the doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the crowd is eager all day long. The feature this year is a silent auction of rare posters, some dating back from before 1900. Bids will be taken all day and the winners announced at 5:00 p.m. The doors will close at 6:00 p.m.

For the serious collector there are rare books in all fields of the performing arts and many handsome 18th and 19th century English playbills from Covent Garden and other legendary theatres. Some of the most distinguished apartments in the city boast many items discovered at the Library's bazaar. With quantities of 19th and early 20th century programmes, poster, periodicals and sheet music the bazaar is a decorator's delight.

For the buff, who collects just as seriously but less esoterically, there are thousands of film stills, lobby cards and fan magazines. You will find Playbills and other theatre programmes in such quantity that they are divided by decades to make searching easier.

For dance buffs there are so many dance periodicals and souvenir books that many go away with happily filled arms and empty pocket-books. Music enthusiasts find piano scores and practice books and libretti aplenty.

November 21 is close to the holidays. What better way to do your Christmas shopping and help the Library at the same time. circle the date and get there early. There is a $1.00 donation for admission; it is worth that just to see what is available. but you won't leave empty handed!
